Importance Of Museums

       Museums are valuable resources. They play a big role in our culture, showing us where we have been, where we are currently and we are going. A culmination of human emotion and history, on display for others to study from and appreciate. While you can learn quite a bit from books, facts; only in a museum setting, can you truly grasp the artists meaning, depth you cannot get from a book alone.

           

    My favorite museum that I’ve had the pleasure to visit is the Rijksmuseum, located in Amsterdam. Rijksmuseum displays the artwork of Rembrandt, Johannes Vermeer, Frans Hals, and Jan Steen. It was a great experience the work of great artist in person, so much more than seeing it on a page or on a computer screen. I was in awe, and to be honest I felt a bit insignificant, surrounded by history, creativity, it is something that no one should forgo, and it is once in a lifetime.

         
   One of the pieces I was able to view in person was Jeremiah Lamenting The Destruction Of Jerusalem, by Rembrandt. A magnificent piece of artwork. Jeremiah sits, lost in deep thoughts, reposed. Both light and dark hues are used to create this painting. Lighter hues around the subject (Jeremiah), while darker hues are used around the perimeter of the painting, symbolizing darkness encroaching. The lines in this painting of this painting are both soft and deliberate. There is very little movement in this painting, because I do believe that Rembrandt wanted to convey, emphasize the stillness of the subject.
