The Summer of 4:1

Some time has passed since I have posted a blog on how I have been progressing in my studies. Well that is an easy question to answer: nothing and something. Right, an easy question; a complicated answer. So please allow me to enlighten you with my two part response. Maybe start at the beginning? Ok. This summer has been a summer of long stretches of nothingness and sporadic spurts of action. It would probably look something like this 4:1 if I put it in the form of a ratio. Hummm ‘The Summer of 4 to 1’, I like how that sounds. Sorry I’m rambling, back to it then.

The events that filled the void of nothingness would be finding out towards the end of spring that my mother is very sick with a kidney disorder. Topping my wretchedness cake would be finding out that my brother Joseph is also really sick and no one thought to tell me, until a week ago that the doctors think he may have a tumor on his adrenal gland. I would like to say “You can’t imagine what I am going through right now,” however I am sure many of you can relate. I had to quit attending The Art Institute because funds were running scarce and were needed elsewhere.  At this point in time I received some awful advice. I was told “It is what it is; nobody cares so just move on and deal with it.” I didn’t ask for pity, I asked for support.

Believe it or not after reading that paragraph, a couple good things happened to me this summer. While living like a cloistered monk this summer I was able to save up a good chunk of change. However something more significant happened that has helped to set the foundations for my future. I am one final exam away from my Career Diploma in Interior Decorating, which is just another offshoot of Interior Design. Then just a couple days ago I bit the bullet and signed up for my Associates Degree in Interior Design. Before I was going for my Bachelor’s, at this point in time it is too much for me. I am resigned this this is something that is going to have to be completed in stages.

So, I will be graduating Penn Foster September/October 2013 time frame with my Career Diploma in Interior Decorating, and then August/September of 2014 (Possibly even sooner than that depending on what classes transfer over from The Art Institute) I will be graduating Penn Foster with my Associate’s Degree in Interior Design. Then shortly thereafter I will try again for my Bachelor’s, then my Masters and beyond :). That is what is happening on my end. I hope everything is peachy keen on your end :)
